Contacts

The Contacts page lists every person your agent has ever talked to. A contact is created automatically the first time someone messages the agent on any channel and collects that person's name, phone, email, channels, conversations and notes. It is the people directory; the Clients page is the sales pipeline built on it.

What is a contact, and how is it different from a lead?

A contact is a person: one record per customer the agent has talked to, created automatically and kept as long as your account exists. A lead is a sales opportunity captured from a conversation with that person, with a status, an owner and custom fields. One contact can have several conversations and several leads; every lead points back to its contact.

Notes are written on the contact, so the same note timeline appears on the contact and on every lead linked to it.

How are contacts created?

Automatically, and per agent. When a message arrives from someone the agent has not seen, Mojeeb creates a contact and seeds it with whatever the channel reveals: the WhatsApp number on WhatsApp, the profile name on Messenger and Instagram, and nothing on the website widget, whose visitors chat anonymously: their contact starts as "Guest". Nothing has to be configured, and there is no import step.

How Mojeeb recognizes a returning person, per channel:

  • WhatsApp — by phone number, stored in international format, or by the WhatsApp account id when the number is hidden. A contact matched one way learns the other identifier later, so it stays one contact.
  • Facebook Messenger — by the customer's Messenger id for your page.
  • Instagram — by the customer's Instagram id for your account.
  • Website widget — by the visitor's browser: a returning visitor on the same browser stays the same contact, and the same person on another browser or device starts a new one.

The same person writing on two channels is usually two contacts, because the channels give Mojeeb nothing in common to match on; a later WhatsApp message does match a contact that already holds that number. Merging contacts is not available yet.

How do I find a contact?

Go to Contacts in the sidebar and pick the agent at the top of the dashboard; contacts belong to one agent. The page lists contacts newest first, as a table on desktop and as cards on a phone, and loads more as you scroll. Three filters narrow the list:

  • Search — by name, mobile or email
  • Channel — WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, or all channels
  • Created date — a date range for when the contact was first seen

Each row shows the contact with its email, the mobile number, channel badges, the latest note, and the created date.

What does a contact's page show?

Click a row, or choose Edit from its three-dot menu (⋮), to open Contact details. It shows the name, the mobile number, the email with a copy button, the channels the person has written on, and when the contact was created. The name and the mobile number can be edited here; email and channel identifiers are read-only because Mojeeb uses them to recognize the person.

Two more views open from the row's menu:

  • Conversation — This contact's conversations with the agent, in a drawer beside the list; pick one to read it
  • Notes — The contact's note timeline, the same one shown on linked leads

How do I add or change a mobile number?

Open Contact details, or click Add number on a row that has none. The number editor has a country picker and stores the number in international format. Clearing the field and saving removes the number. Add a number when a Messenger or Instagram customer gives you their phone in the chat, so the contact can be found by it later.

  • A number typed as 01001234567 with Egypt selected is saved as +201001234567.
  • Each country's number length is checked, so a mistyped digit is caught before saving.

How do notes work on a contact?

Notes are short internal remarks your team writes about a person, and they live on the contact. Click the notes icon on a row to open Notes; type the note and click Add Note. The timeline shows notes newest first with the author and time, marks edited notes, and lets you load older notes. Only the author can edit or delete their own note. When a linked lead changes status, a system note records the change in the same timeline.

How do I export contacts?

Click Extract on the Contacts page, available to owners and admins; members see a permission notice. In Export Contacts choose Excel (.xlsx), CSV or JSON, then click Start Export. A progress window follows the job and offers the download when the file is ready.

  • The export follows the filters you have applied, including the date range, which the window confirms with Current Filters Applied.
  • Each contact is exported with its id, name, mobile, email, channels, and created and updated dates in UTC.

Common questions

Why is a contact named "Unnamed contact"?

Mojeeb did not learn a name from the channel or the conversation. WhatsApp gives a number but not always a name, and widget visitors may not fill the name field. Open Contact details and type the name; it then appears on the Contacts page, in the chat list, and on any lead linked to the contact.

Why do I see the same person twice?

Either they wrote on two channels, which creates one contact per channel, or two messages arrived in the same instant from a brand-new person. Mojeeb has no merge yet, so keep notes on the contact you use most and add the phone number to it so searches find it.

Can team members with limited access see all contacts?

Contacts belong to an agent, so a member who is limited to specific agents sees only the contacts of those agents. See Team Management for how access to agents is set.

Does deleting a conversation delete the contact?

No. Contacts stay on the Contacts page with their notes even when conversations are deleted, and a new message from the same person attaches to the existing contact.

Is there a limit on contacts?

No. Every plan keeps every contact, with no cap on the number.
